Now, normally I would harp about the day-to-day hustle, bustle, sights and smells of the MTA, but this story is just too great.
My fellow bloggers and I wanted to take a trip out to Williamsburg in the beginning of the year when the weather was still nice, and the subways weren't too hot or smelly.
Mind you, we live near a mecca of stations (namely Fulton, Brooklyn Bridge, Wall Street, etc.), so any normal person would adequately utilize the multitude of apps for travel that our wonderful "smart phones" provide. Oh, but not us! We decided to hop on a train and figure it out.
Here's the route:
- Hop on at City Hall (BK-bound 5)
- Get off at Church Ave
- Walk some, hop on a Q train
- Ride that for a while, realize we're en route to Coney Island (Hooray!..not)
- Backspin and reverse...
Now after about three hours, and countless phone calls to my Brooklyn-native friends (which were far from helpful), we FINALLY made it to Williamsburg, where we were greeted by a bustling stretch of outer borough blocks that had all the excitement of Manhattan with all the character of a Brooklyn neighborhood. After some eating, thrifting, and window shopping, we headed back to school (confident in our navigation skills).
Needless to say, the blunder proved to be a great first subway experience, and as you can see from other posts *cough, Chanda* we now frequent the neighborhood via the 5 and L trains to Union Square and Bedford Ave.
Happy Thursday!
-Sydney
