Happy Monday Everyone!
So I would like to start off by saying that nothing too crazy happened to me this weekend, so I just decided to talk about what I did, cool places to check out, all that jazz.
This weekend was very different because I got to spend it playing "tour guide." Meaning that I had a visitor (my boyfriend!) stay with me for a few days so I got to participate in "touristy" adventures and activities that I normally don't get to do! I'll tell you that I secretly love doing the things most 'New Yorkers' normally don't participate in. Why? Because it's fun! I love going to Times Square (maybe without all the crowds), museums, parks, and awesome buildings. It makes New York still have the magical qualities that sometimes become hidden behind school, and work. I'll share some of the fun things I did this weekend and what I would recommend for YOU do to if you're ever in the "Big City!"
SOHO!
Soho is a great place for those who like to spend. Very chic and fun! Pricey, but it's really cool to window shop or at least pretend you can afford some items in certain stores. No matter what your price range is, there will probably be a store perfect for you!Times Square
I have to talk about Times Square. For those of you who have never been to Times Square then I will explain some tips about it. Yes it's awesome and VERY touristy; it's basically a MUST DO if you visit the city for the first time. All the lights are amazing and entertaining but there are some 'precautions' you may want to take into consideration!
1.) CROWDS CROWDS CROWDS. Honestly it depends on the time of day/year/etc, but no matter what there will always be some sort of crowd. If you're not a 'people person' then i wish you luck.
2.) Naked Cowboy and Cowgirl. I know that this is something most people WANT to see...but trust me... it's a strange sight. The cowboy isn't as bad although he is a bit touchy, but the cowgirl is a bit disturbing on the eyes.
3.) Comedy Show Promoters (for lack of a better term). These people are everywhere. EVERYWHERE. Also they are very persistant. I usually avoid or walk by because eventually it gets a bit excessive.
SO, Times Sqaure. Very awesome, many stores, interesting people and sights!
The Met!
The Knights At the Met! |
The Metropolitan Museum of Art is a very cool place to go for your arsty side! Also if you're a history buff, this is the place to be. Artifacts from the Byzantine Empire, Egypt (the mummies are so cool!), the French Renaissance, and many more reside inside this GIANT museum. It's really amazing and you see a lot of really cool and expensive pieces of history. Just make sure you grab a map in the beginning because you will get lost! I had to ask several security guards for directions on just how to exit the building. Also if you're looking for something cheap and entertaining, the Met is (basically) free! Don't be fooled by the prices posted above the ticket booths! The Met is strictly donations. You could donate anywhere from 100 dollars to a penny!
Union Square
Flatiron Building! |
My Delicious Crepe! |
Union Square is really cool for those searching for a less crowded Times Square (without the lights). A lot of cool stores, people, restaurants, and activities! Union Square is one of my favorite places to go and to bring people. Definitely check out the places to eat. It's a very college friendly area considering that NYU is right around the corner. My recommendation is Vive La Crepe! I got the egg, ham and cheese crepe and it was delicious! The Nutella hot chocolate is also something interesting to try! If you're looking for sites to see, the Flat Iron Building is a few blocks away along with the infamous Museum of Sex! All very cool and interesting places to go. Also check out Union Square around the holiday times! Tents are set up with local stores and vendors selling clothes, food, jewelry, etc!
My Weird Encounter
Although I didn't see that many strange things during my adventures I did happen to have one weird encounter! As I was taking the R train from Union Square a Mariachi band ran through my subway car and played a song! It was actually really cool! Check out the video I took!
I did a LOT more this weekend but I figure I'll save it for next time! Have a great week and enjoy!
